Women's Rugby Kicks Off Spring Season with 48-10 Win over Queens

01.27.25

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The 2025 season kicked off this past weekend with an away match against Queens for the Life University women's rugby program, offering both teams a chance to shake off the post-break rust and get valuable minutes on the field. Despite having only two weeks of training under their belts, Life's players were eager to test their mettle in a competitive setting.

From the opening whistle, it was evident that the Running Eagles were still finding their rhythm, as some early handling errors and miscommunications crept into play. Even so, the team showcased enough cohesion to keep the scoreboard ticking over, leading 21–10 at halftime. Queens capitalized on occasional loose play, demonstrating why they are a challenging opponent and ensuring the match remained competitive through the first forty minutes.

As the second half unfolded, Life began to streamline their play. Combinations solidified across the park, allowing the visitors to display moments of brilliance in attack and resolute defense. The coaching staff took full advantage of the preseason nature of the match by rotating the squad, granting significant playing time to both seasoned veterans and emerging talent. By the final whistle, the Running Eagles had extended their lead to 48–10, a testament to their ability to adapt and improve as the game progressed.

While the result was pleasing, the performance also highlighted areas in need of refinement. Reducing turnovers and sharpening set-piece execution will be crucial points of emphasis in the coming weeks. Still, the high-energy approach and glimpses of excellence offered plenty of optimism. The squad now looks forward to hosting Queens later in the year and building on this performance when they face the University of Florida next week.

For now, Life U can celebrate a successful early hit-out. Thanks go to Queens for their hospitality, and both teams will undoubtedly benefit from a challenging match that provided an ideal launch pad for the busy season ahead.
