MARIETTA, Ga. — The No. 2 Life University men's wrestling team delivered a dominant performance Friday night, overpowering #3 Southeastern University 37-9 in front of an energetic home crowd. The Running Eagles displayed their depth and firepower, winning eight of ten bouts to improve their record while handing SEU a decisive loss.
The dual started with a strong statement from Life U at 125 lbs, as Adrian Morales secured an 11-2 major decision over Brodie Christmas, giving the Running Eagles an early 4-0 lead. However, Southeastern responded at 133 lbs briefly putting SEU ahead 6-4.
Southeastern then kept momentum at 141 lbs, as Andrew Voiles edged out Kaden Ramos in an 11-7 decision, extending SEU's lead to 9-4. Bret Minor then followed with a pivotal performance at 149 lbs, delivering a show-stopping fall at 4:30 over Mario De La Torre, pushing the Running Eagles back in front, 10-9.
At 157 lbs, Jaden New continued Life U's momentum, grinding out a 4-1 decision over Michael Shannon to widen the gap. Reese Jones followed with an impressive showing at 165 lbs, using a combination of takedowns and near falls to secure a 10-2 major decision.
Alexander Couto then won by forfeit at 174 lbs, giving Life U six uncontested points. The momentum carried over to 184 lbs, where Kendall Norfleet put on a show with a pin at 3:38 over Jeffrey Geller, stretching the lead to 32-6. At 197 lbs, Khalil Abdushshakur displayed technical superiority, securing a 17-2 tech fall at 6:48 over Trillyon Fils-Aime, adding five more points to Life U's tally.
Closing out the night, Earnest Johnson sealed the victory for Life U with a 5-2 decision over Noah Winder in the heavyweight bout.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Associate Head Coach Jacob Laden praised the team's effort, saying, "They definitely brought the flight. You know the environment was packed. It was a fun one, pretty loud, but overall, I think I'm just thankful that we have the opportunity to compete. Thankful that we're breathing. Thankful that our guys made way thankful, and thankful that we have the opportunity to get out there and compete."
The Running Eagles now shift their focus to another exciting upcoming conference matchups as they host Reinhardt next Friday.
