MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University's women's basketball team claimed a hard-fought 72-69 victory over Point University in the Eagles' Nest. The Running Eagles relied on clutch performances and defensive tenacity to secure the win in a closely contested Southern States Athletic Conference matchup.
The Running Eagles took control early, outscoring Point 23-11 in the first quarter. Aniyah Offutt led the charge, scoring 10 points in the opening period, including several key baskets in the paint. Dianis Hurtado and Kenya Robinson also contributed to the early lead with efficient shooting and strong defensive plays.
Point battled back in the second and third quarters, narrowing the gap with a 19-point second quarter and a 23-point third quarter. Lanee Edwards and Jada Williams spearheaded Point's comeback efforts, combining for 42 points. Edwards hit three three-pointers and scored 23 points overall, while Williams added 19 points and four steals.
In the final quarter, Life managed to hold off Point's late surge. Aniyah Offutt led all scorers with the 22 points and five rebounds while Dianis Hurtado scored 21 points, including four three-pointers. Key defensive stops and clutch free-throw shooting helped Life maintain their lead in the closing minutes.
Overall, Life shot 46.4% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range, with significant contributions from the bench. They also forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 25 points. Despite being out-rebounded 33-28, Life's defensive pressure and efficient scoring proved decisive.
With the victory, Life University improves to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in SSAC play. The Running Eagles will look to build on conference momentum hosting Thomas next weekend in another SSAC contest.
