Men's Basketball Secures Conference Win over Point

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University's men's basketball team captured a decisive 80-71 victory over Point University at the Eagles' Nest, using a dominant first-half performance to secure the win. The Running Eagles built a substantial lead early and held off a the Skyhawks from Point to improve their standing in the conference.

The Running Eagles took control midway through the first half, going on a 12-3 run to open up a nine-point lead with just over 16 minutes remaining. Tyreke Johnson sparked the surge with back-to-back three-pointers, helping the team to a 43-36 advantage by halftime. Johnson finished with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and added four rebounds.

Chaze Harris was a force throughout the game, scoring a game-high 21 points, along with five steals and five assists. Cortez Johnson contributed significantly, with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Srdjan Popovich added 14 points and five assists, while Dara Olonade chipped in seven points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

Despite a strong second-half effort by Point University, Life's early dominance and defensive pressure proved too much. The Running Eagles forced 18 turnovers, turning them into 23 points. Their fast-break game also played a crucial role, adding eight points in transition.

Life's efficient shooting—55.8% from the field and 47.1% from three-point range—helped them maintain control. Despite being out-rebounded 33-24, strong defensive plays and balanced scoring carried the Running Eagles to the SSAC win.

With this win, Life University improved to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Running Eagles will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to host Thomas for another SSAC contest next weekend.
