Men's & Women's Swim Claim Senior Day Wins Over Thomas

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life University men's and women's swim teams picked up a pair of Senior Day wins over the Nighthawks of Thomas on Saturday afternoon. The Running Eagles dominated the action throughout the day, winning 24 events out of 27.

Nikita Snoeren, Petra Beky, Elisa Gross and Terangimarie Moanaroa opened the meet with a win in the women's 200 yard medley relay. Their time of 1:51.87 was just under one second faster than second place.

On the men's side, Bence Meresz, Xavier Trovesi, Rasmus Petersen and Leo Guleryuez narrowly out touched the Thomas squad, winning the 200 yard medley relay with a 1:35.58.

Raffaele Urtiola Rojas picked up the first individual win of the day for Life U in dominant fashion with a time of 9:55.07 in the men's 1000 yard freestyle. The freshman also went on to win the 200 yard backstroke later in the meet (2:01.75).

Following up on his relay win, Meresz went on to post a 56.25 in the men's 100 yard breaststroke to win the event. 

Carla Rodriguez Jara raced to the first event win on the women's side, claiming the 200 yard butterfly (2:16.19). Teammate Kendall Ashburn placed second with a 2:20.82. Rodriguez Jara also took home the win in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.25.

Mate Dort earned an event win in the men's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.20. He was the only swimmer in the event to go below two minutes. The junior also went on to dominate the 500 yard freestyle, dropping a 4:59.80. He was the only swimmer in the event to go below five minutes.

Moanaroa narrowly out raced teammate Malfrid Seteklev in the women's 50 yard freestyle, taking first with a 25.34 while Seteklev posted a 26.71. Moanaroa also went on to win the 100 yard freestyle (56.42), this time out pacing teammate Kyleigh Shonk (58.05).

Picking up a pair of individual event wins to go with his earlier relay win, Guleryuez won the men's 50 yard freestyle (21.56) and the 100 yard freestyle (47.23). 

Beky earned an individual event win in the women's 200 yard backstroke, racing a time of 2:29.93. This put her nearly a full ten seconds ahead of second place. She also won the 200 yard IM (2:18.49), with teammate Zara Kleinhans finishing second (2:24.63).

Trovesi added an individual event win to his relay win, taking the men's 200 yard backstroke (2:10.16) by over five seconds.

In the tightest race of the day, Petersen bested teammate Carl Boennemark by just .27 seconds in the men's 100 yard butterfly. Petersen recorded a time of 53.58 while Boennemark posted a 53.85.

Max Oppermann won the men's 200 yard IM with a time of 2:04.80 while teammate Matthew Mahony placed second (2:07.44).

Closing out the meet, Life U took the win in both relays. On the women's side, Kleinhans, Moanaroa, Rodriguez Jara and Ashburn swam a 3:49.60 in the women's 400 yard freestyle relay. On the men's side, Arthur Silva, Meresz, Petersen and Guleryuez posted a 3:11.93 in the men's 400 yard freestyle relay.
