MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (16-25, 22-25, 25-27) to the Skyhawks of Point early Saturday afternoon. The visitors opened the first set strong while narrowly holding Life U at bay in sets two and three.

A tough start for the Running Eagles saw Point claim nine of the first ten points in Marietta. A Life U timeout slowed the bleeding as kills from Jade Watson, Paola Vega and Katrin Hardardottir pulled the contest back to 6-11. However, another massive visitor run ensued as Point reclaimed a double-digit lead. A second Life U timeout prompted a five-point run from the home squad, once again cutting the lead down to five. Though the Running Eagles did well to keep the set close, the early deficit was too large to overcome as Point claimed the first set.

Point wasted no time jumping out to a 10-5 lead in the second set, mirroring the early dominance from the first. Though Life battled back to 9-11, with kills from Sarah Pipping and Paola Vega, a five-point run from the Skyhawks strengthened the lead back to 16-11. Life U continued to fight back into the set late, forcing back-to-back attack errors out of Point and cutting the deficit to just two, 20-22. However, following a Skyhawks timeout, the visitors won three of the next four points to claim the second set.

Similar to the first two sets, the Skyhawks once again jumped out in front by going on a 11-4 run. Despite a timeout from the Running Eagles, the visitors continued to hold a near double-digit lead well into the latter half of the set. Just as it appeared as Life U would go quietly, the home squad erupted for a 10-1 run, pulling the set back within two, 20-22. From there, the Running Eagles won five of the next seven points, including two-straight on set point, to equalize the score line at 24-24. The opportunity to steal the third set was in play, with Life U taking a 25-24 lead. However, Point claimed the next three-straight points, winning the third and final set of the match.

Up next, the Running Eagles travel to UT Southern on Friday, Oct. 31.
