PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Life University women's soccer team fell to the Golden Eagles of John Brown late Monday night by a score of 4-1. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half and never looked back. Nearly the entire contest was played in the pouring rain as storms rolled through the area.

Both teams traded early opportunities, with Faith Martin nearly opening the scoring in the 14th minute. The Golden Eagles answered with a corner and shot that was saved by Elora Niederpruem but continued to mount pressure. The momentum finally gave way to the opening goal in the 21st minute, with John Brown claiming a 1-0 lead.

Martin once again nearly found the back of the net in the 27th minutes after a great dribble from Victoria Valles, but the shot missed just inches above the top corner. The Golden Eagles capitalized on yet another opportunity just minutes after the narrow miss, making it 2-0 off a long free kick from the keeper.

Despite trailing 2-0 at the break, Life U and John Brown were even on shots in the first half at 5-5.

Life U wasted no time cutting the deficit in half, courtesy of Lilja Olafsdottir. Taking a big swing from outside the box, the senior curled a high shot from over 20 yards out into the back of the net. The momentum was short lived for the Running Eagles as an error on the back line resulted in a third goal for the Golden Eagles in the 55th minute.

Trailing 3-1, Life U attempted to find a way back into the contest late with additional numbers forward, but were caught on the counter. Unable to get numbers back, the Running Eagles conceded one final goal in the 85th minute.

The contest closed 4-1 in favor of John Brown.
