TALLADEGA, AL. — The Life University women's basketball team fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping a non-conference contest to the Tornadoes of Talladega 63-50. The Running Eagles started out hot, but a strong second half from the home standing Tornadoes saw the contest get out of hand.
Life U opened the game with early momentum, jumping ahead by as many as six in the first quarter behind an Aniyah Offutt three-point jumper and a strong and-one finish from Emily Perez at the rim. The Running Eagles led 14-9 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Tornadoes responded well in the next period, despite going down by eight after jumper from Kenya Robinson with 8:39 left to play in the period. They were able to close the gap by going on a 14-7 run to trail at half 26-25. Robinson led all scorers with 10 points at the break while also logging five boards.
Talladega picked up where they left off coming out of the half, catching fire from the field and outscoring Life U 25-9 in the frame. Despite forcing four turnovers in the period, the Running Eagles entered the final period trailing 50-35.
In the final period, the Running Eagles were able to produce 15 points, but it was not enough as the Tornadoes pulled away down the stretch to secure the 63-50 victory. Robinson was the only player to reach double-digits for Life U while Myori Pruitt, Brianna Pope and Offutt each added nine points.
