MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Life University women's basketball team fought hard in a defensive battle against the University of Mobile on Thursday night but came up just short, falling 55-49 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl. The Running Eagles led by as many as six points in the second quarter, but Mobile made key plays down the stretch to secure the win.
The first half was a tight contest, with both teams trading baskets early. Life U trailed by one after the opening quarter, but strong defensive play and an efficient offensive stretch helped the Running Eagles take a 25-24 lead into halftime. Aniyah Offutt played a key role in the first half, attacking the basket and keeping the offense flowing.
Coming out of the break, Life U continued to battle, limiting Mobile to just nine points in the third quarter. The Running Eagles led for stretches, holding their largest lead of six points with just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter. However, turnovers plagued Life U, allowing Mobile to hang around despite their shooting struggles.
The fourth quarter proved to be the difference-maker. Mobile found its rhythm offensively, outscoring Life U 20-13 in the final period. A late 6-0 run by the Rams gave them control, and despite Life U's efforts to respond, the Running Eagles were unable to close the gap.
Overall, Life U's defensive effort was impressive, as they recorded nine blocks and six steals while limiting Mobile to just 29.7% shooting from the field. The Running Eagles also outperformed the Rams in the paint, scoring 28 points inside. However, turnovers proved costly, with Life U committing 20 giveaways compared to Mobile's 14.

-- Mobile used a strong fourth quarter, including a late 6-0 run, to gain momentum and seal the victory.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- Aniyah Offutt led Life U with a game-high 21 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the field, including two three-pointers. She also added three rebounds and two assists.
-- Kaden McCorvey contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and was a defensive force with three blocks and two steals.
-- Kaci Scott pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and added two assists and three blocks.
Up next, the Running Eagles will wait to see if they receive a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
