WEST POINT, Ga. – The Life University men's basketball team defeated Point University 96-80 on the road at West Point Gym on Saturday afternoon, utilizing efficient shooting and a strong rebounding effort to secure the conference victory.
The Running Eagles wasted no time asserting control, as Elias Ramirez drained a three-pointer just 17 seconds into the game to set the tone. Life U maintained steady offensive execution throughout the first half, with Chaze Harris and Tyreke Johnson leading the charge. Harris posted eight first-half points and three rebounds, while Johnson added nine points and eight rebounds to help Life U take a 43-34 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Life U continued its hot shooting and defensive pressure. Ramirez finished with 16 points, including four three-pointers, while Harris contributed 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Johnson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, dominating inside play. The Running Eagles also saw key contributions from Matija Gledic, who scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench, and Dara Olonade, who added 12 points and five boards.
Defensively, Life U limited Point's second-chance opportunities, winning the rebounding battle 39-26 and forcing 10 turnovers. The Skyhawks were led by Mike Evans, who scored a game-high 28 points, and Antwon Ferrell, who contributed 14 points and four rebounds, but their efforts were not enough to overcome Life U's efficient offense.
Life U shot 55.6% from the field and 35.7% (10-of-28) from three-point range, assisting on 14 of their 35 made baskets. The Running Eagles' largest lead of the game was 24 points late in the second half, showcasing their dominance in conference play.
Up next, Life U returns home for a pivotal pair of SSAC matchups hosting Middle Georgia and ABAC next week. Tip-off against Middle Georgia is set for 7:30 p.m., Thursday.
