PROVO, UTAH — In a physically demanding and high-scoring matchup, the Life University women's rugby team secured a 57-33 victory over BYU. Despite the final score, the game was closely contested throughout the first half as BYU carried a first half lead to break.
The match started with an early try from Brooklyn Vaifanua, setting the tone for a fast-paced battle. However, BYU responded quickly, scoring a try of their own and converting a kick to take the lead moments later. The back-and-forth nature of the game continued as the Running Eagles then regained momentum at the 14-minute mark, when Mercie Vivao powered through for a try, followed by an Annabella Vogel successful conversion.
As the first half progressed, BYU continued to challenge the Life U defense, adding three more tries before heading to halftime with a break. In the second half, the Running Eagles remained composed, answering with crucial scores from Lei Opeti, Madelyn Jennings, and Harlie Kallichuk. A penalty try for Life in the second half then widened the gap, shifting control firmly in the Running Eagles' favor.
Despite a late push from BYU, Life continued to dominate in the final minutes. Back-to-back tries in the final ten minutes from Joannah Skucek and Sofia Fernandez sealed the victory, ensuring the victory.

Head coach Ryszard Chadwick shared his thoughts on the match, stating, "A seriously, good, strong, and aggressive BYU side showed up today. We were not at our best, but that's to take nothing away from BYU. That was a real grind and we are happy with the win of course, but know we have room to grow. The big positives are that that's with six freshman starting, we found a way to win." Chadwick also mentioned freshman Alilia Tuitavake as a standout performer in the contest.
Up next, the Running Eagles return home to face longstanding rival Lindenwood next Saturday, March 29th.
