MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life University women's lacrosse team breezed past the Warriors of Webber International early Thursday afternoon. The Running Eagles took an early 7-0 lead over the visitors before cruising to a double-digit win.
Alyssa Curto opened the scoring in the first minute of action as Life U immediately assumed control of the contest. Though it took a minute for the offense to find its footing, a second goal from Curto with 08:19 left in the first opened the flood gate. Curto and company poured in five more goals in the remaining eight minutes, including a pair from Nicole Ortiz. Lexi Santiago recorded three assists in the period.
The Warriors finally got on the board in the second but a third goal from Curto and a pair of scores from Roxie Beasley kept the Running Eagles firmly in the lead. A goal from the visitors in the final seconds of the half had little effect as Life U went to the half with a 10-3 lead.
Out of the break, the Running Eagles engaged a running clock off goals from Curto, Beasley and Kathryn Moody. Now with a double-digit lead, the defense held the Warriors to just two goals in the third period while the offense continued to find success.
Though the Running Eagles scored just one goal in the final period, the game concluded 17-6 in favor of the home squad. Eight different Life U players scored in the contest.
