MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's soccer team rallied with three second-half goals to claim a 3–1 victory over Reinhardt University to remain unbeaten at 2–0 to start the season.
Despite controlling possession early, it was Reinhardt that struck first. In the 38th minute, the visitors claimed a 1–0 lead after a failed clearance was followed with a shot on goal. That advantage carried into halftime, as the Running Eagles found themselves trailing despite an 8–2 edge in total shots during the first period.
The second half proved to be an entirely different story though as just three minutes after the restart, the Running Eagles pulled even when Helen Gutierrez slotted home a finish off an assist from Sara Diaz to make it 1–1. In the 55th minute, the same connection struck again as Gutierrez tallied her second goal of the evening, once more set up by Diaz.
The Running Eagles then extended their advantage in the 63rd minute when Gutierrez and Diaz combined again in the buildup before finding Sacha Millward, who buried her third goal of the season to secure the 3–1 result.
From there, the Running Eagles controlled the pace and limited Reinhardt's opportunities, holding the visitors without a shot for the final 30 minutes of play.
The Running Eagles dominated statistically, outshooting Reinhardt 21–2, including an 8–1 margin in shots on target, while also earning 11 corner kicks compared to none for the visitors. Gutierrez paced the attack with two goals and an assist on eight shot attempts, while Diaz provided three assists in a standout performance. Millward finished with the final goal and a team-high six shots.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Elora Niederpruem and the Life U back line kept Reinhardt's attack in check, facing just one shot on frame across the full 90 minutes.
The Running Eagles will take a week break before returning to action once again at home next weekend against Montreat.
