MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's soccer team cruised to a 5-2 home-opener win over the Eagles of Reinhardt early Tuesday night. The home offense netted four goals in the first half, with four different Running Eagles finding the back of the net.
Life U dominated the possession from the opening whistle, hammering away at the visiting Eagles back line. In the 18th minute, Finn Seijsener opened the scoring for the Running Eagles with brilliant finish into the top-right corner from just inside the 18.
The flood gates opened as just under five minutes later, Life U once again found the back of the net with Stan Van Der Laan heading home a cross from Augusto Del Rio. The lead moved to 3-0 in the 34th minute as reigning Golden Boot winner Thomas Rodella slotted home a free kick from 25 yards out, going up and over the five-man wall.
Andrei Apostu brought the lead to four just three minutes later, with Manuel Carrillo adding the assist. Though the Running Eagles did conceded before the half time break, Life U out shot the visitors 16-1 in the half.
The second half featured more of the same, as once again the Running Eagles out shot Reinhardt 17-1. Del Rio added the only Life U goal of the half, back-heeling home a low line drive from Carrillo.
The contest concluded 5-2 in favor of the Running Eagles.
When asked about his teams performance, Head Coach Alex Pama responded, "Great to win our home opener and a very good first half for about 38-40 minutes. After we went up 4-0, we started to become a little sloppy in our play and defensive efforts. Same for the second half," said Pama. "It was good to give our starters some rest, but we gifted another goal. So we have to be critical and fix those small errors. But overall satisfied. Great 2-0-0 start ahead of our Florida trip where we face a very good Southeastern side on Saturday. Big thanks to our many fans who came out on a Tuesday evening. Great to see the lads have this much support at home."
