MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team fell in a hard-fought battle against the #11 ranked Tiger of Georgetown at home on Friday night. The game was hotly contested all the way to the end, with the visitors narrowly pulling off the victory in the Eagles' Nest.
The Tigers took a narrow lead early in the first quarter before the squads traded buckets. A late bucket from Sa'mya Stevens pulled the contest within four with under a minute left in the frame, but a pair of layups for the Tigers followed. Life U trailed 20-12 heading into the second.
In the second, the Running Eagles defense turned it on. The defense held Georgetown empty from the floor until 1:43 in the quarter while the offense found its' rhythm. Late buckets from the visitors and solid free throw shooting kept the visitors in it, but Life U took the momentum to the half time break with the score tied 38-38.
The offense picked up for both sides in the second half. The teams traded consistent buckets throughout the third, with neither team able to take more than a four-point advantage. Arianna Harper tied for the lead in points in the frame with seven while pulling down 4 boards.
In the fourth and final frame, the Running Eagles came out and took the lead, holding it for the first five minutes of the fourth. However, the Tigers retook the lead with 03:17 left in the contest. From there, the Tigers continued to hold the lead for the remainder of the game. Life U pulled it as close as one, but were never able to level the contest or take the lead.
