MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The #21 Life University women's soccer team is headed back to the SSAC Championship match for the fourth time in five seasons in the SSAC after earning a 1-0 victory over Tennessee Southern in Thursday's semifinal at Emory Folmar YMCA.

The Running Eagles controlled much of the opening half, creating several opportunities while keeping Tennessee Southern's attack in check. Life's first chance came in the fourth minute when Caroline White sent an attempt wide, followed by another opportunity in the eighth minute that was saved by Tennessee Southern goalkeeper Sam De Gier.

Elora Niederpruem was called into action early as well, making saves on attempts from Luella Cramer and Lily Davies to keep the match scoreless. Life continued to apply pressure through the half, with Victoria Valles forcing another save in the 20th minute and Odalis Tapia seeing an attempt blocked shortly after.

As the half progressed, the Running Eagles continued to find opportunities in the attacking third. Louise Martineau put a shot on target in the 41st minute, and Linn Joelsson followed with an attempt that was blocked. Life's persistence paid off just before the break.

At 44:02, Joelsson broke the deadlock with what proved to be the game-winning goal. After Tennessee Southern failed to clear the ball, Joelsson combined with Martineau on a give-and-go before sliding her finish through the goalkeeper's legs. The goal was Joelsson's fifth of the season and sent Life into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

Life carried that momentum into the second half, creating two more opportunities in the opening seven minutes. Ava Brundidge sent a shot wide in the 50th minute before Martineau tested De Gier with an attempt on target in the 52nd minute.

After Life U created two strong chances at the other end, First Team All-Conference goalkeeper Niederpruem was called into action in the 57th minute to answer one of Tennessee Southern's biggest threats of the afternoon. The sophomore stretched across the goal to make an outstanding full-extension save on Kamilia Tayebi's shot, preserving the Running Eagles' 1-0 lead.

The back-and-forth affair continued for the final 40 minutes as the Running Eagles continued to push for an insurance goal. Valles sent an attempt high in the 59th minute, Phoenix Parks put a shot wide in the 66th, and Djenna Zahoual forced another save from De Gier in the 71st minute.

The Running Eagles created additional chances late, with Valles sending two more attempts wide in the 81st minute. Tennessee Southern then looked to answer on the counter, but Ellie Walker's attempt went wide in the 83rd minute. Martineau added one final opportunity for Life at 83:30, but her shot also missed the target.

With Niederpruem and the Life defense keeping Tennessee Southern off the scoreboard, the one-goal advantage held through the final whistle. Niederpruem finished with three saves to record the shutout as the Running Eagles secured their place in the conference championship.
