Life U Posts Strong Showing at Cumberland Open

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The Life University men's wrestling team turned in a strong performance Saturday at the Cumberland Open, producing two individual champions, multiple podium finishes, and a collection of bonus-point victories across the lineup.

Starting at 125 pounds, Mikey Doerr advanced to the championship bout after an impressive run through the bracket. Doerr opened the tournament with back-to-back technical falls before securing a semifinal pin at 6:13. He finished the event as the runner-up following an 8–1 decision loss in the finals, totaling three bonus-point victories on the day before the loss to #18 Jesse Lewis.

The Running Eagles then had tons of success at 157 pounds, where #2 Fabian Padilla captured the tournament title with a perfect 5-0 performance. Padilla recorded three technical falls during his run, including victories over multiple Cumberlands wrestlers, before closing the tournament with an 8–2 decision win in the championship match.

Also competing at 157, #4 Douglas Terry collected three victories before medical forfeiting out of the tournament. Terry earned two technical falls and a major decision prior to withdrawing.

At 165 pounds, #9 Rocky Raby delivered one of the most dominant performances of the tournament. Raby went a flawless 5-0 with two falls and three technical falls, finishing the event with a 19–4 technical fall victory in the championship bout to secure the individual title.

The Running Eagles added another podium finish at 174 pounds behind #6 Konlin Weaver, who advanced to the finals with three straight technical fall victories. Weaver finished as the runner-up after a narrow 4–2 decision in the championship match, posting three bonus-point wins on the day.

At 197 pounds, #8 Efren Arizmendez rebounded from a close quarterfinal loss to assemble a strong consolation run. Arizmendez recorded five bonus-point victories, including four falls and one technical fall, before closing the tournament with a first-period pin in the third-place match.

At 285 pounds, #3 Gabriel Jacobs competed in a deep heavyweight bracket, gaining additional mat time against regional competition as Life continued to develop depth across all weight classes.
