MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's rugby team turned in a complete performance in the D1A Round of 16, defeating Mount St. Mary's men's rugby, 61–5, at Lupo Family Field to advance to the national quarterfinals.
Life set the tone immediately, breaking through in the opening minute as Kade Cunningham powered in for the first try. Jonty Lee converted and went on to deliver a strong day off the tee, finishing 8-of-9 on kicks.
Cunningham added another try in the 10th minute, and the Running Eagles kept their foot on the gas. Adam Chadwick extended the lead in the 23rd minute, and after Mount St. Mary's managed its lone score, Life responded with authority. Seth Kros and Jordan Vassel each crossed in the first half, with Lee converting to build a commanding advantage.
Out of the break, Shaun Matthysen wasted no time adding to the tally, followed by another try from Chadwick. Zander Basson and Bautista Araujo capped the scoring effort as Life's depth and pace continued to shine.
Defensively, Life was just as impressive, limiting Mount St. Mary's to a single try and consistently shutting down attacking opportunities. The Running Eagles also handled the challenging heat at Lupo Family Field with composure, maintaining their tempo and physicality from start to finish.
With the 61–5 victory, Life advances to the D1A quarterfinals, continuing its push toward a national championship.
