Track & Field Holds Its Own During Crimson Tide Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Life University track & field team continued its outdoor season on Friday, April 10th at the Alabama Crimson Tide Invitational. The event was held at the University of Alabama located in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Running Eagles had a decent showing, leaving with multiple personal best records and three single-A standard and one single-B standard mark.

On the track for the women, junior Emeline Delaville set a new personal best on her way to a second-place finish in the women's 800-meter dash. Delaville's time of 2:04.67 was also good enough for a single-A standard mark, being the fastest time in the NAIA this season. In the final event on the track, the Running Eagles put together a relay team featuring Delaville, Najah Gibson, Payton Knowles and Kamarra Trisch. The four ladies ran a time of 3:51.70, good enough for a single-B standard and an 11th-place finish.  

In the field events, junior Cameron Kelperis placed ninth overall in the women's pole vault event. Kelperis' mark of 3.83 meters was also enough to qualify for a single-A standard. Finally, in the women's hammer event senior Tara Koonce finished ninth overall with a mark of 49.92 meters. 

The men's track team for Life U ran to a top-five finish in the 4x100 meter relay. A team of Khalil Carr, Sammy Samuel, Jamario Russell and Drew Pochylko ran a season best 41.37 on their way to a fifth-place finish. In the final track event, the Running Eagles put together a team of Alejandro Ramos, Gray McIntyre, Pochylko and Abedelemejid Kerebo to compete in the 4x400 meter relay. The men ran a time of 3:15.70 which landed them a 10th-place finish overall. 

Over on the field side, junior Keondre Glover kept his streak of top-10 finishes going as he placed eighth in the men's high jump event with a mark of 2.05 meters.In the sand, Carr jumped his outdoor season best of 6.82 meters on his way to a seventh-place finish in the long jump event, teammate freshman Jacoby Puckett also placed in the top 10 finishing ninth overall with a mark of 6.48 meters. In the shot put event, sophomore Darius Barge continued his dominate season, placing eighth with a mark of 17.06, which was another single-A standard. In the final two throwing events, junior Winston Sanders placed 10th overall in both the discus and hammer events with marks of 49.06 in discus and a personal best of 54.45 in hammer.

The Running Eagles will be back on the track on Friday, April 17th when they travel close to home to compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
