MACON, Ga. — The Life University women's volleyball team swept Wesleyan College on Saturday morning, earning a 3-0 victory over the Wolves. The Running Eagles took the match with scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-11.
The Running Eagles controlled the opening set from the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind kills from Kaylee Cantlin and Medney Garraux. Life U continued to build its advantage throughout the frame, taking a 10-4 lead before Wesleyan cut the deficit to four. The Running Eagles responded with another strong stretch, using kills from Garraux, Taelynn Epple and Kya Colston along with service aces from Epple and Vitoria Reis to take a 17-7 advantage. Life U maintained control the rest of the way, closing the set on an Epple service ace, 25-13.
The second set featured a back-and-forth start before Life U began to pull away. The Running Eagles held a 10-10 tie before a kill from Garraux sparked a 9-0 run. Garraux added a service ace and a kill during the stretch, while Paola Vega and Epple also recorded kills as Life U pushed ahead 19-10. The Running Eagles continued to hold the Wolves at bay, with kills from Vega and Garraux helping secure the 25-14 set win.
Life U carried the momentum into the third set, opening the frame with a 3-0 lead and extending the advantage to 7-1. Reis and Garraux each recorded service aces during the early run, while Jadyn Walters and Colston added kills. Wesleyan trimmed the deficit to 10-5, but the Running Eagles responded with seven straight points to take a 17-5 lead. Reis added two more aces during the stretch before Garraux and Walters helped Life U reach match point. A Wesleyan attack error ended the contest at 25-11 and completed the sweep.
Life U hit .275 as a team in the contest while holding Wesleyan to a -.132 hitting percentage. The Running Eagles also recorded 11 service aces, five total blocks and 44 digs in the sweep.
