MARIETTA, Ga. — The No. 12 Life University women's soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 11 William Carey (MS) on Friday evening in this week's SSAC Game of the Week.
The Crusaders struck early, taking advantage of a corner kick in the fourth minute as Alba Aguado found the back of the net off a service from Boo Mills. William Carey doubled its lead just over five minutes later when Poala Alvarez scored to make it 2-0 less than nine minutes into the contest.
Despite the early deficit, the Running Eagles settled into the match and created several opportunities through set pieces. Life earned 10 first-half corner kicks and found a breakthrough in the 32nd minute when Louise Martineau converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
The second half remained a one-goal match until William Carey capitalized on another corner kick opportunity in the 66th minute. Following a Crusader corner, Susan De Souza Santos finished a chance created by Boo Mills to restore the visitors' two-goal advantage.
Life continued to push forward throughout the final stretch, finishing with a 12-4 edge in corner kicks, but the Running Eagles were unable to find a second goal as William Carey secured the 3-1 conference victory.
