Charles “CJ” Shearer enters his 5th season as Life University’s Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. The Orlando, FL native enters with a career record of 77-77, his 61 wins at Life make him the winningest coach in program history. His 2025 campaign saw the program go 12-18, with 3 1st Team All-AAC players and one 2nd Team All-AAC player. The 2024 season saw him guide the team to a 22-11 record, the most wins in a season for the program, and a semi-final finish in the AAC Conference Tournament, tying the best finish for the Men’s Volleyball program. Prior to this historic season, he navigated the team to a 10-12 record in 2023 after the team earned a 17-7 record in 2022, his inaugural year. He has also found academic success since his arrival, with the team earning over a 3.0 GPA in 12 of his 14 quarters at the helm. He has guided multiple athletes to individual success, with 5 First Team All-Conference and 8 Second Team All-Conference athletes, along with multiple athletes breaking single season and career program records.
Prior to his arrival, Coach CJ was the inaugural Head Coach of the Reinhardt University Men’s Volleyball team, guiding the program to a 16-29 record in his first two years between 2020 and 2021. He was also the Assistant Coach for the Reinhardt Women’s team from 2017-2021, where he helped the program to 3 AAC Regular Season Championships, 3 AAC Tournament Championships (2018 and 2019 winning both), and 2 NAIA National Final Site berths. His first collegiate stop was at Webber International University from 2015-2017, where he served as a Women’s Volleyball Assistant Coach for two years and helped earned Webber’s first Sun Conference Championship in 2016. He also started Webber’s Men’s Volleyball program in the Spring of 17, recruiting and guiding athletes through an inaugural Collegiate Club season.
Coach CJ has also been part of the Regional High Performance All-Stars Program in the Southern Region since Summer 2021. During his time there, he has coached some of the best Boy’s Volleyball players the Southern Region has to offer, guiding teams to a Silver Medal in 2021 and a Bronze in 2022. He has also gathered a wealth of success at the Youth Club level, highlighted by a AAU Open National Championship medal in 2013, and several medals in National Championship and National Qualifier tournaments.
Charles was a part of the inaugural Limestone Men’s Volleyball team in 2009 and played 4 years there, putting himself into record books with the 2nd most Aces Per Set in a single season his senior year. He continued play into his adult life, winning a 2016 Adult Open National Championship and being named to the All-Tournament Team, along with multiple strong finishes in the Beach Volleyball circuits of Florida.
Coach CJ has lived in Georgia since 2017 and has been married to his Wife, Danielle, since July 2020. They have two children, Diana and John.
