Ashawnte Hawkins

Ashawnte Hawkins is entering her first season as an assistant coach at Life University.

Before arriving in Marietta, Hawkins spent three years in Talladega, becoming the associate head coach before the 2016-17 season. In her time with the Tornadoes, she helped the program to a 60-28 record, and coached two Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Year in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, she help lead the team to consecutive GCAC regular season championships in 2016 and 2017, as well as the first GCAC Tournament Championship in program history.

"I am extremely excited, let alone honored, about becoming a part of the Life University family," said Hawkins. "I give my gratitude to my Kevin Herod of Talladega College for giving me my first shot at coaching at the four-year level. Coach Maxwell, who I am going to enjoy working with, has given me another great coaching opportunity, and I am privileged in knowing that I get to become a part of his very own coaching legacy here at Life University. Coach Maxwell has great passion for the game and we both relate in several different areas. Our vision for the program is heading in the right direction, and you all will see great change soon."

While at Talladega, Hawkins' teams were consistently ranked in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, and finished ranked 24th in 2017. In fact, in the 2015-16 season, the Tornadoes were ranked for seven consecutive weeks, topping out at 14th and finishing the season ranked 15th. In the last two seasons, her squads finished with a combined record of 45-15, with a conference record of 22-2.
