MARIETTA, Ga. – Junior
David Scott and Senior
Zach Landis put up career numbers to lead Life University (10-2) to its ninth-straight win with the 95-75 victory over Martin Methodist (0-11). With the win, the Running Eagles also sweep the regular season series against the Redhawks.
"This was a good way to end the home portion of our schedule in December," Head Coach
Keith Adkins said. "I am really happy with how we are playing offensively, but we still have a long way to go on the defensive end."
While Scott and Landis played big rolls in the win, they were not the only ones as five total Running Eagles logged double-digit points on the night. Scott paced the squad with his first double-double of the season with a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds with two assists. Reigning, back-to-back Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Landis logged his first career triple-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists, and is only one of two players in the MSC to accomplish this feat this season. Senior
Ivan Benkovic posted 18 points, three rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. Senior
Undra Mitchem logged 15 points, three rebounds, an assist, a block and two steals. Sophomore
Connor Gamble also contributed 15 points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Life U was stumbled a little out of the gate as the Redhawks opened with a 10-5 lead. However, they quickly responded and took the lead to stay at 12-11 with 12:53 left in the half. They would go on to roll out to their largest lead of the half at 31-19 with just over eight minutes left in the period. The Running Eagles held a 44-35 lead to end the half.
The second half was all Life U, as the Running Eagles continued to roll. After coming out of the intermission and going on a 6-0 run, they effectively put the game way at 65-53. They didn't allow Martin Methodist to come with nine points of the lead for the remainder of the game. Scott closed out the game with a put back shot inside the final minute to give Life U its largest lead at 20 points and seal the 95-75 victory.
The Running Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16 as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face off against Stillman College.
