MARIETTA, Ga. – Sophomore
Wessley Soronellas and Freshman
Thierry Jules led Life University (2-1) to a 2-0 win over Montreat on Wednesday.
Â
Head Coach
Alex Pama was pleased with the overall performance of his squad in the victory.
Â
"This was good, hard-fought win against a good team," said Pama. "We were really happy with the way they battled and created opportunities, which is something we have been working on improving."
Â
Both Soronellas and Jules scored a goal apiece in the win. Junior
Joe Davis earned his second win and his first shutout, with five saves. Life U outshot the Cavaliers 19-11, with eight shots on goal compared to just five.
Â
The first half was a heavy defensive match due to wet conditions from rain showers before the match. Soronellas found the back of the net at the 30' minute to give the Running Eagles a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Â
The final period played out just like the first with a defensive stalemate for the majority of the remaining 45 minutes. However, Montreat fouled Jules at the 62' minute to set up a penalty kick. Jules drilled the past the Cavalier goalkeeper to seal the victory for Life U.
Â
The Running Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 as they welcome William Carey to Lupo Family Field.
