Buechler Leads Running Eagles to 5-1 Win Over Pikeville to Open MSC Play

MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (6-4, 1-0 MSC) rolled to a 5-1 victory over Pikeville (2-6-1, 0-1 MSC) in front of a crowd of 275 to open the Mid-South Conference slate.

This was a good first conference win for us," Head Coach Alex Pama said. "However, we could have put this game away in the first half with all the chances we created and a missed penalty kick. We are still learning, and not everything is as dominant and perfect as we would like it to be, but we are making progress."

Sophomore Bastian Buechler led the way with two goals, with both coming on penalty kicks. Sophomore Sergio Sereeira, Wessley Soronellas and freshman Thierry Jules all contributed a goal apiece. Freshman Daryoush Hosseini got the win the goal only allowing one goal and making one save. The Running Eagles outshot the Bears 18-3, with eight shots on goal compared to two.

Sereeira seemed to forshadow the outcome of this match with his very early goal at 6'. Soronellas would find the back of the net a short while later at 11', to give Life U a 2-0 lead early. UPike managed to cut the lead to one with their lone goal at 25'. However, the Running Eagles would take a 3-1 lead into the half thanks to the first made penalty kick of the day from Buechler.

The second half was much more slowed down and much more defensive. Buechler would blast his second made penalty kick of the day at 78' to extend the lead to 4-1. Jules would put the match away with a header in the waning seconds of the match at 89' to give the Running Eagles the 5-1 victory.

Life U is back in action on Oct. 4 as they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to take on Shawnee State.
