Life U Falls To No. 3 Campbellsville

MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (7-8, 0-3 MSC) dropped 91-73 decision to No. 3 Campbellsville (17-2, 3-0 MSC) on Saturday afternoon.

"Once again, I know this sounds kind of cliché, but I really feel like we got better today and we are getting closer and closer to where we need to be," Head Coach Anthony Maxwell said. "We have nothing to hang our heads about. We lost to a very good Campbellsville team that's ranked third in the nation, and the score was in no way indicative of the game. It was a seven-point game with two minutes to go. We are going to keep chipping away, and hopefully get some steam rolling."

Three Running Eagles finished with double digit points in the loss. Sophomore Tierra Lindsey paced the squad with 15 points in addition to four rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist. Senior Kennesha Nichols logged a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as three steals, a block and an assist. Sophomore Damiya Montgomery contributed 11 points, five rebounds, a steal and an assist.

The Running Eagles shot of the gate on fire as they opened on a 7-2 run, and did not trail in the first quarter. They pushed out to their largest lead of the period at 15-7. The Tigers battled back late in the quarter and managed to trim the lead to a single point to close out the quarter 17-16.

Campbellsville used the momentum from the end of the opening period to force a back and forth opening couple of minutes to the final 10 minutes of the half that featured three ties and two lead changes. The Tigers took their first lead at 19-17, but gave it back to the Running Eagles at 26-24. From there, Life U took over and eventually took their first double digit lead of the game at 38-28. They took a 42-34 lead into the break.

The Running Eagles stumbled out of the intermission and gave up the lead to Campbellsville 47-44 early in the third quarter. From that moment, The Tigers never trailed again in the game. Life U kept it close and came within one point several times, but couldn't convert. The Tigers took a 63-59 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Running Eagles tried to keep the Campbellsville within striking distance early in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers eventually became too much for Life U. Campbellsville took its first double-digit lead at 80-69 with less than two minutes left. They added several points late due to Life U getting into foul trouble, and eventually took a 91-73 victory.

The Running Eagles will be back in action as they began four-game road trip on Thurs., Jan. 18 in Columbia, Ky. against No. 12 Lindsey Wilson.
