MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (14-5) closed out the non-conference portion of the regular season with an 87-64 blowout of Concordia College on Monday.
"I was really afraid that we would have an emotional letdown tonight, after coming off of two huge games last week," Head Coach
Keith Adkins said. "However, I thought our guys did a good job of staying focused and keeping our eyes on the bigger picture. With two more big Mid-South Conference games later this week, we wanted to come out of this one tonight feeling good about where we are, and I think we did that."
Five Running Eagles posted double digit points in the rout. Reigning MSC Player of the Week, senior
Undra Mitchem paced the squad with 25 points as well as six rebounds and a steal. Junior
David Scott put up 16 points to go with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Both senior
Zach Landis and
Michael Miller finished with 11 points and four rebounds, with Landis adding five assists and Miller adding three assists and a steal. Junior
Deven Dorsett contributed 10 points, five rebounds and an assist.
In a game in which Life U never trailed, the Running Eagles opened on a 13-2 run. The Hornets were able to trim the lead with a 9-0 run of their own to pull within two points at 13-11. However, that would be as close as Concordia would get. Life U rebounded with a head of steam and pushed out to a 16-point lead at 40-24 with just over two minutes left in the half. They eventually took a 44-34 advantage into the break.
The Running Eagles came out of the intermission a little flat, and allowed the Hornets to pull within five points at 53-48. However, they once again flipped the switch and took over the game going by 21 at 72-51. They didn't slow down and claimed an 87-64 victory.
Life U gets back to MSC action on Thursday, Jan. 18 as they begin a four-game road trip in Columbia, Ky. against No. 8 Lindsey Wilson.
