COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 25 Life University (14-6, 2-2 MSC) dropped an 83-71 decision to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson (18-0, 4-0 MSC) in a game in which the Running Eagles never led on Thursday.
"This game was a little like our game at Cumberlands a couple of weeks ago," Head Coach Keith Adkins said. "Like that one, we just never got into a good offensive flow. I thought we battled, but in the end we just made too many mistakes. You just can't do that in this league, especially on the road. Now we have to let this one go and bounce back at Cumberland on Saturday."
Four Running Eagles finished with double digit points in the loss. Senior
Michael Miller paced the squad with 15 points as well as four assists, three rebounds and a steal. Senior
Undra Mitchem put up 14 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior
Zach Landis contributed 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Senior
Ivan Benkovic posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to go with two assists and a steal.
The Blue Raiders began the game on an 11-0 run and never looked back. The Running Eagles were able to pull within five points at 13-8, but that would be as close as they would get in the period. LWC eventually took a 35-29 lead into the half.
A three pointer by Miller out of the break put Life U within three at 35-32. However, the Blue Raiders answered with a 12-0 run to give LWC a double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the game. The Running Eagles were able to trim the deficit to single digits several times, but were never able to complete the upset. Lindsey Wilson took an 83-71 victory to remain the only undefeated team left in the NAIA.
Life U will need to rebound quickly as they travel to Lebanon, Tenn. on Saturday, Jan. 19 to face off against Cumberland.
