Women's Basketball Hits Century Mark in Home Opening Win over Fisk

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team downed Fisk University 100-63 in the 2018-19 home opener for the team.  
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 2-1 on the year, while Fisk fell to 0-2.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Shikiya Brown led the Running Eagles with 16 points. She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Tierra Tullis added 14 with three steals as Damiya Montgomery shot 6-for-10 from the field with 13. 
Naomi House was the one to finish in double-figures with 11 points and four steals. Maeisha Teasley tallied a game-high six steals as Tshlene Bently tallied nine boards. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U led by double-figures early in the first quarter after a pair of jumpers put the Running Eagles ahead 17-4. Atkins made a free-throw just before the end of the first quarter to give Life U a 28-10 lead.
• Life U continued its offensive pressure in the second quarter as a layup from Tullis three minutes in gave the Running Eagles a 20-point lead, 32-12. Brown converted the final points for Life U just before the half as the Running Eagles led by 31, 57-26.
• Fisk outscored Life U 26-17 in the third quarter, however they were unable to put a significant dent in the lead. Life U led 74-52 at the end of the third.
• Life U regained control defensively in the fourth quarter and allowed just two points in the final four minutes of the game. With 1:28 on the clock, Montgomery finished a layup to put the Running Eagles at the century mark. Life U dribbled out the final thirty seconds of the game to earn the 100-63 home victory over Fisk.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 37-for-61 from the field, 60.7%, while Fisk shot 23-for-67, 34.3%.
• Life U held the advantage in the turnover margin over Fisk 25-34.
• Life U shot 20-for-37, 54.1%, from the free-throw line as Fisk finished 14-for-31, 45.2%. 
• Life U held a slight 45-40 advantage in rebounds over Fisk.

• The women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Waleska, Ga. to face Reinhardt University at 6 PM.
