Men's Basketball Topples Carver in Running Eagles Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team defeated Carver College 86-62 Saturday afternoon at home to begin play in the Running Eagle Classic.  
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 4-2 on the year.
Connor Gamble set a new career-high with 30 points to lead all scorers in the game. He finished 7-for-12 from behind the arc and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
DJ Scott picked up a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. He was 8-for-11 from the field, 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
Evan Milligan also finished with a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. He added five assists, four blocks and three steals and was also perfect from the free-throw line, 5-for-5. 
Jay Jay Simpson was the final Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 11 points. He added four assists, two steals and was 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U led by 12, 14-2, in the first five minutes of the game and never trailed throughout both halves.
• At the nine minute mark, Scott connected from deep to give the Running Eagles an 11-point lead, 27-16.
• At the half, Life U led 41-33 with Gamble hitting a three at the minute mark for the last points of the half.
• A 10-1 run to start the second half by Life U was finished as Milligan scored the and-one basket with the free-throw to lead Carver 51-34.
• With 7:50 remaining in the game, a three from Gibbons brought Carver to within eight, 65-57.
• Life U finished the game on a 19-2 run with a pair of free-throws from Milligan just before the buzzer to earn the 24-point victory, 86-62, over Carver.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 26-for-64 from the field, 40.6%, while Carver shot 21-for-53, 39.6%. The Running Eagles finished 10-for-27, 37.0% from beyond the arc, as Carver went 4-for-19, 21.1%.
• Life U held the advantage in the turnover margin over Carver 22-6 and converted 24 points off of the turnovers.
• Life U shot a season-high 24-for-28, 85.7%, from the free-throw line as Carver finished 16-for-25, 64%. 
• Life U held a 30-24 advantage in points in the paint over Carver.

• The men's basketball team will return to action on Sunday, November 18, as they conclude play in the Running Eagle Classic on campus at 3 PM against the University of Maine Fort Kent.
