Men's Basketball Finishes 2-0 in Running Eagle Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team defeated the University of Maine-Ft. Kent 99-72 Sunday afternoon at home to finish the Running Eagle Classic 2-0.  
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 5-2 on the year.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Evan Milligan tallied his second double-double of the tournament with 20 points and 14 boards. He added three assists and a steal while shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Jay Jay Simpson finished with a team-high 22 points with six assists and two steals. 
• Gamble added 19 for Life U as Taevon Ashmeade picked up his first double-double of the year on 14 points and 10 rebounds with five steals and two assists. 
DJ Scott was the final Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 14 points. He was 6-for-9 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from three. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U led 9-6 after the first four minutes with Gamble finding Scott under the basket for two.
• UMFK held a two-point lead, 14-12, two minutes later with a three from Caldwell. This marked the only Bengal lead of the game.
• An 11-2 Life U run gave the Running Eagles a seven-point lead, 23-16, after a three from Reid that was assisted by Ashmeade at the 12-minute mark.
• A 15-2 run from Life U was finished with a pair of free-throws from Gamble at the one-minute mark as the Running Eagles led 51-32. Life U held a 53-35 lead over UMFK at the half.
• Life U dominated in the second half as the Running Eagles led by at least 15 or more the entire 20 minutes. Neither team scored in the final two minutes of the game, as Life U earned the 99-72 victory over UMFK.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 36-for-69 from the field, 52.2%, while UMFK shot 28-for-61, 45.9%. The Running Eagles finished 14-for-40, 46.7% from beyond the arc, as the Bengals went 10-for-26, 38.5%.
• Life U held the advantage in rebounds 42-28 over UMFK.
• Life U shot a perfect 13-for-13, from the free-throw line as UMFK finished 6-for-14, 42.9%. 
• Life U held a 30-17 advantage in points off turnovers.

• The men's basketball team will return to action on Friday, November 23, as they host the College of Coastal Georgia at home in the Life University Classic at 8 PM.
