MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team defeated Coastal Georgia 87-65 Friday night at home to begin play in the LU Classic.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 6-2 on the year, while Coastal Georgia fell to 6-2.
• The 22-point win marks the fifth time all year the Running Eagles have defeated a team by 20 or more.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Evan Milligan finished with 18 points, six boards, four blocks, three steals and two assists. He was 4-for-5 from behind the arc.
•
Deven Dorsett also finished with 18, and added four rebounrds, three assists and a steal.
• Taevon Ashmeade picked up 15 points with nine rebounds, four steals and two assists as
Connor Gamble finished with 14 and two steals.
DJ Scott was the final Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 10 points on four boards, three assists and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Coastal Georgia held an early 12-5 lead over Life U after the first five minutes of play.
• Life U responded with a 10-2 run that was finished as Ashmeade made his free-throw to complete the and-one opportunity to give the Running Eagles a 15-14 lead.
• Coastal Georgia tied the game at 24 with seven minutes on the clock, as Life U finished the half on a 23-7 run. Scott hit a pair of free-throws with 1:34 remaining in the half for the final points as Life U led 47-31 at the break.
• Life U led by 21, 53-31, after a layup in the paint from White that was assisted by Scott a minute and a half into the second half.
• Coastal Georgia brought the game to within ten, 61-51, with 12 minutes on the clock, however a 9-0 run was finished with a layup by White once again assisted by Scott with nine minutes remaining in the game.
• Life U finished the game as Milligan scored with 1:52 on the clock, as the Running Eagles earned the 87-65 win over Coastal Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 32-for-64 from the field, 50%, while Coastal Georgia shot 26-for-56, 46.4%. The Running Eagles finished 12-for-29, 41.4% from beyond the arc, as Coastal Georgia went 4-for-17, 23.5%.
• Life U held the advantage in the turnover margin over Coastal Georgia 22-15 and converted 31 points off of the turnovers.
• Life U shot 11-for-14, 78.6%, from the free-throw line as Coastal Georgia finished 9-for-18, 50%.
• Life U held a 36-33 advantage in rebounds over Coastal Georgia.
