CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – No. 25 Life University (17-8, 5-4 MSC) took down Campbellsville (18-7, 3-6 MSC) in a 81-73 decision on Thursday.
"I think it's an understatement saying this was a big win for us," Head Coach
Keith Adkins said. "After dropping one at home last week, it was vital for us to pick up at least one more win on the road. Give our guys a ton of credit. One of our last keys for this game, before we took the floor, was to find a way to win on the road. They did that, and they deserve all of the credit."
Five Running Eagles finished in double digits in the win. Senior
Jay Johnson paced the squad with 22 points as well as eight rebounds, three assists and a block. Senior
Undra Mitchem put up 18 points with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Senior
Zach Landis posted 16 points in addition to nine rebounds, six steals and an assist. Senior
Ivan Benkovic added 12 points and a rebound. Senior
Michael Miller contributed 10 points with three rebounds, four assists and a block.
After a back and forth opening stretch, which featured six lead changes and four ties, Life U settled in and grabbed the lead to stay. After the opening shots, the Running Eagles emerged with a 20-19 lead and took control of the game. They proceeded to go on a 13-4 run to take a 33-23 advantage with just over seven minutes left in the half. The Tigers tried to make a late push, but Life U held them back and took a 42-41 lead into the break.
After the intermission, the Running Eagles went to work rebuilding their lead and opened the half on a 10-3 run. With a 52-44 lead, Life U managed to hold Campbellsville at bay for the majority of the second half. The Running Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 73-59 with just over eight minutes left in the game. Once again, the Tigers would attempt a late comeback, but came up short as they were only able to trim the lead to 76-72. Life U eventually came out with a 81-73 victory.
The Running Eagles will close out the final regular season road trip on Saturday, Feb. 10 as they travel to No. 10 Georgetown.
