BRUNSWICK, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell in its final two matches at the Mariner Invitational on the campus of Coastal Georgia. The Running Eagles fell 3-2 to Tennessee Wesleyan before droping the final match to Warner 3-0.
NOTES
• The Running Eagles took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-17 but lost the final three sets in game one against Tennessee Wesleyan.
• In Game 2 against Warner, the Running Eagles fell in three straight sets 25-22, 25-13 and 25-21.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Chelsea Hill tallied 26 kills in both matches with 20 in game one.
•
Taylor Parrish led the way with 55 assists in both matches with 44 in game one.
•
Gaby Ferran led the way with 22 total digs on the day with six aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U led early in set one of the first game, however a 5-0 run from Tennessee Wesleyan tied the game at 12. Tennessee Wesleyan tied the set at 23, however consecutive kills from Hill gave the Running Eagles the 25-23 win.
• Life U led the entire second set, and led by as many as eight, 19-11. The Running Eagles secured the 25-17 victory in set two.
• In set three, Life U trailed for most of the set, but after a 4-0 run was finished with a kill from Alvis the Running Eagles trailed by just three, 24-21. However, Tennessee Wesleyan scored the final point, 25-21, to take set three.
• Tennessee Wesleyan had its largest lead of the match in set four, 21-7, as the Bulldogs never trailed to force a fifth set winning 25-10.
• Set five displayed a back and forth affair, as Tennessee Wesleyan led 7-5, but a 5-0 run from Life U gave the Running Eagles a 10-7 lead. Extending out to a 12-9 lead, Tennessee Wesleyan responded with a 4-0 run to lead 13-12. The Bulldogs finished the set 15-13 to take the match three games to two.
• In game two, the first set was point for point early on. The Running Eagles went on a 4-0 run to lead 8-4 after an ace from Dorland. A 6-1 run from Warner gave the Royals a 13-11 lead, but Life U responded with a 5-0 run to lead 16-13. A Kill from Ferran brought the game to within two, 24-22, however Warner held on for the 25-22 victory in set one.
• Set two began with points going back and forth, as Life U led 8-7. However, an 11-1 run from Warner gave the Royals a commanding 18-9 lead. Warner took set two by a score of 25-13.
• Neither team led by more than four points in the third set. Life U came back within two, 21-23, however Warner finished the game 25-21 to take set three and the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U held the advantage in kills with 58 to go with 53 assists in game one, while Tennessee Wesleyan had 44 kills and 43 assists. Life U outscored Tennessee Wesleyan 74-56 in total points despite the loss.
• Life U finished game one with a .141 hitting percentage and Tennessee Wesleyan finished with a .269 hitting percentage. The first game was decided by errors, as Life U had 36 to just 15 from Tennessee Wesleyan.
• Life U tallied 25 kills with 23 assists in game two, as Warner finished with 34 kills and 33 assists.
• Warner finished with 44 digs, while Life U picked up 41.

• The Running Eagles will return to action on Friday, August 24 when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the Mid-South Conference Crossover Classic. Life U will face Indiana University Southeast at 10 AM and Union College at 12 PM.
