BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell in its opening two matches of the Mid-South Conference Crossover Challenge Friday afternoon.
NOTES
• The Running Eagles won sets two and four (25-18 and 25-21) against Indiana University Southeastern, but fell in five sets (25-22, 25-19 and 18-16) to start the day.
• After battling for five sets, Life U returned to the court immediately after, and fell in three sets to Texas Western (25-23, 25-20 and 25-20).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Liz Mann finished with 24 kills on the day, including 18 in match one, while
Chelsea Hill led the team with 25, 13 in match one and 12 in the second.
•
Alia Dorland also finished in double digits with 18 kills on the day.
•
Taylor Parrish tallied 56 assists with 42 in the first match, and Gabby Ferran led the team defensively with 39 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set against IUS had the two teams battling back and forth. The Grenadiers led 21-17 late in the set, but a 3-0 run by the Running Eagles cut the lead to one. IUS would take set one by a final of 25-22 despite the late run.
• IUS leaped out to an early 7-2 lead in set two, but a 4-0 run from Life U cut the lead to one. The Running Eagles trailed 10-6, but a 9-0 put Life U ahead 15-10.
• Life U finished the second set on a 5-1 burst to take the 25-18 victory.
• An early 5-0 run from IUS gave the Grenadiers a narrow 12-11 lead. They extended the lead to four with another 4-0 run, as the Running Eagles went point-for-point and fell in set three 25-19.
• Both teams went back and forth with short runs in set four, however Life U held a six-point lead, 23-17, late in the set. A kill from Mann forced a fifth set as the Running Eagles were victorious in set four, 25-21.
• IUS jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the fifth and final set, however three consecutive points brought Life U to within two. The Grenadiers were on match point, but the Running Eagles responded with two straight to tie the set at 14. Life U held a 16-15 advantage after a kill from Hill, however IUS finished the match on a 3-0 run to take the fifth set 18-16.
• The first set of the match with Texas Wesleyan again had small two to three point runs from each side. A 2-0 run from Life U late in the set tied the game at 20. Life U brought the game to within one, 24-23, after a kill from Hill, however the Rams took the first set 25-23.
• Texas Wesleyan controlled the second set early on, but an 8-3 run from Life U brought the set to within two, 18-16. A 4-0 run from the Rams gave a seven-point lead, 24-17, to Texas Wesleyan. Despite a late 3-0 run, Life U fell in set two 25-20.
• Life U led 10-8 early in set three, and maintained the lead ahead 19-16. Texas Wesleyan used a 9-1 run to finish the match and take the win 25-20.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U held the advantage in kills with 56 to go with 52 assists in game one, while IUS had 54 kills and 47 assists.
• Life U finished game one with a .189 hitting percentage and IUS finished with a .177 hitting percentage. Both teams finished with 25 errors.
• Life U tallied 35 kills with 29 assists in game two, as Texas Wesleyan finished with 42 kills and 36 assists.
• Life U held the advantage in digs 48-43 over Texas Wesleyan.

• The Running Eagles will return to action on Saturday, August 25 when they continue play in the Mid-South Conference Crossover Classic. Life U will face Brescia University at 11 AM and Martin Methodist College at 3 PM.
