Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett in Home Opener

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's soccer team fell in the 2018 home opener to No. 8 nationally ranked Georgia Gwinnet College 3-0, despite holding the Grizzlies scoreless in the first half. 
 
NOTES
• Georgia Gwinnett improved to 1-0 on the year, while Life U fell to 0-1.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Thierry Jules and Wessley Soronellas led the way offensively with two shots each.
Bastian Buechler and Steinar Magnusson recorded the only shots on goal for the Running Eagles.
• Andrew White, Carlos Delarosa and Myles Barber each scored for Georgia Gwinnett. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Nine minutes into the match, a shot by Hirsch from Georgia Gwinnett called upon Zakarija to make the save for the first shot on goal of the match.
• Saidy had one of the best chances for Life U in the 22ndminute on a long cross from outside the box that bounced off the far post and bounced around the box before being grabbed by the Grizzlies keeper. 
• Neither team put a shot on frame the remainder of the first half, as the score was locked at zero.
• Five minutes into the second half, Georgia Gwinnett scored its first goal. A swinging corner allowed White to put a shot on frame that was saved by Zakarija, however the ricochet fell at the feet of Delarosa who gave the Grizzlies the early 1-0 lead.
• The second Georgia Gwinnett goal came in the 69thminute on a set piece that was swung into the box by Hirsch to find White. The Grizzlies led 2-0.
• Two minutes later, another long cross in from Hirsch bounced dangerously across the face of goal and was scored by Barber to give Georgia Gwinnett a 3-0 lead.
• Life U earned a penalty in the 73rdminute as Buechler placed the shot into the upper left corner, however Gligorovic made a diving effort to preserve the clean sheet.
• Life U had its last chance in the 82ndminute on a cross that glanced off the chest of Magnusson and was again saved. Georgia Gwinnett held on to take the 3-0 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Georgia Gwinnett held a 15-8 advantage over Life U in shots. The Running Eagles trailed 6-5 in shots during the first half.
• Life U had a 5-2 advantage over Georgia Gwinnett in saves.
• Georgia Gwinnett held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks over Life U. 
 
UP NEXT 
• The Running Eagles will return to action on Thursday, August 23 when they host Florida National University at Lupo Family Field. The match is scheduled to start at 7 PM.
