MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's soccer team fell in its 2018 home opener to Reinhardt University 5-1 Wednesday night.
NOTES
• Reinhardt improved to 1-0 on the year, while Life U fell to 0-1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Josie Davis scored the first goal of the season for the Running Eagles and finished the night with four total shots with three on frame.
•
Wilma Moberg also finished with four total shots and three on frame.
•
Carolina del Mar Orria Ferreira and
Elin Josefsson each also added two shots each as
Citlalli Godoy-Diaz earned her first assist of the year.
• Kaitlyn Lauk earned a hat-trick as Jane Howell and Adrien Merrilles scored for Reinhardt.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Three minutes into the match, Reinhardt took an early 1-0 lead on a shot deflection from Jane Howell that found the back of the net.
• Within a four minute time span, Life U had three chances on frame, but were unable to find the equalizer.
• Lauk scored Reinhardt's second goal in the 18th minute of the match to put the Eagles ahead 2-0.
• Seconds before the first half ended, Reinhardt scored its third goal of the match from Adrien Merrilles to go into the half ahead 3-0. Reinhardt narrowly outshot Life U in the first half 9-7.
• 13 minutes after the half, Davis found the back of the net on a cross from Godoy-Diaz to cut the Eagle lead to a 3-1 margin.
• Still trailing by two, Life U had a chance to cut the score to one with a penalty in the 83
rdminute, however the Reinhardt Keeper Johnson dove to her right and kept the ball out of the net to preserve the 3-1 scoreline.
• Lauk scored the final two goals of the match 16 seconds apart in the 85
thminute for her hat-trick. Reinhardt held on to the lead to with 5-1 despite the Running Eagles trailing the Eagles 18-16 in total shots.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U held a 12-8 advantage over Reinhardt in shots on goal and trailed 18-16 in total shots.
• Life U led Reinhardt 5-3 in corner kicks as well.
• The Reinhardt keeper came away with 11 saves on the night.

• The Running Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, August 28 when travel to Dayon, Tenn. to face Bryan College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.
