BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team split its final two matches for the team's first win this season on the final day of the Mid-South Conference Crossover Challenge.
NOTES
• The Running Eagles fell to Brescia University in the morning 3-1.
• In the final game of the tournament, Life U defeated Martin Methodist 3-0 to move to 1-7 on the year.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Liz Mann finished with 25 kills on the day, including 12 in match one, while Gabby Ferran finished with a team-high 15 in the first match.
• Defensively,
Marin Black totaled 37 digs in both matches, while
Mary Zimmerman picked up 7 blocks on the day.
•
Amber Harris led the way in game one with 30 assists, while
Taylor Parrish picked up 35 in the final game of the tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U trailed by one, 10-9, after back-to-back kills from Ferran against Brescia in set one. The Bearcats took their largest lead of the set after a 9-2 run to lead 19-11. With Brescia sitting at 24, Life U went on a 5-1 run to trail by four, however the Bearcats took the first set 25-20.
• Life U used an early 12-2 run in set two to hold a 13-5 lead. Trailing 20-10, the Bearcats were not finished, as Brescia went on a 12-3 run to cut the Running Eagle lead to one. A kill from Hill and an attack error from Brescia gave Life U the 25-22 victory in set two.
• Brescia used an early 5-1 run to control the third set. The Running Eagles brought the set to within two, 11-9, before the Bearcats extended their lead out to nine, 23-14. Life U scored three in a row, however Brescia took set three with the final two points to win 25-17.
• Set four saw both teams fight for control of the lead, as neither team led by more than four points through the opening exchanges. The score was tied eight times, as a late 3-0 run from Life U tied the match at 18. Brescia finished the match with six consecutive points and added the final to take the fourth set 25-19 and win the game.
• In the second game of the day, Life U Matched up with Martin Methodist. Early in set one, the Running Eagles led 12-6. A kill from Ferran moments later gave Life U a 15-9 lead. Life U capitalized on attacking errors from the Redhawks, and led 24-19, however Martin Methodist brought the game to within one. Hill gave the Running Eagles the final point needed to take set one 25-23.
• Life U controlled the early advantage in set two, and led 16-13, before a 6-0 run included two service aces from Black as the Running Eagles held a commanding 22-13 lead. Ferran finished the set with a kill as Life U took the 25-17 win.
• Life U continued to use the momentum from the first two sets, and never trailed in set three. The Running Eagles led by as many as 10 late in the set, 24-14. Hill provided the final point to seal the first win of the season in 3-0 fashion.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Brescia held the advantage in kills with 58 to go with 58 assists in game one, while Life U had 51 kills and 43 assists.
• Life U finished game one with a .165 hitting percentage and Brescia finished with a .362 hitting percentage. Brescia was limited to 11 errors, while Life U had 25.
• Life U tallied 43 kills with 38 assists in game two, as Martin Methodist finished with 29 kills and 27 assists.
• Life U held the advantage in digs 57-47 over Martin Methodist and had an attacking percentage of .255 in the match.
UP NEXT
• The Running Eagles will return to action on Thursday, August 30 when they open play for the Running Eagle Classic that will be played on campus. The tournament will feature three running courts and will be played all day Friday and Saturday as well.
