MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team defeated Keiser University in the 2018 home opener 3-1. The match also started the Running Eagle Classic that will run on campus through Saturday night. 
 
NOTES
• The Running Eagles defeated the Seahawks in sets one (25-15) and two (25-23), before falling in set three (25-22). Life U finished the match in set four with a 25-22 win to improve to 2-7 on the year.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Liz Mann earned 17 kills to lead the time, while Chelsea Hill picked up 12.
• Defensively, Marin Black totaled 23 digs, while Mary Zimmerman picked up five blocks.
• Gaby Ferran earned a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs with Taylor Parrish leading the way in assists with 35. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Early in set one, the match went back and forth as neither team held a significant lead. A kill from Thompson gave the Running Eagles a 12-11 lead with a 7-0 run giving Life U a 19-11 advantage.
• Keiser responded with a short 3-0 run, but a late 5-0 run was finished with a service ace from Dorland to put Life U on the verge of victory. Mann picked up the final kill as the Running Eagles earned the 25-15 win in set one. 
• Life U led 11-7 early in the second set after a kill from Ferran. A 4-0 run from Keiser tied the set at 11, however Life U used a 5-1 run to lead 17-13 after a kill from Mann.
• Life U held at set point, 24-21, when Keiser responded with two points to bring the game to within one. Mann earned the final kill of the set to put Life U ahead 25-23 and 2-0 in the match.
• Neither team held more than a three-point lead in set three, as Keiser took a late 23-20 lead. Life U brought the game to within two, 24-22, however a set error ended the set with a 25-22 victory for the Seahawks.
• Keiser jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in set four, however Life U responded with a 6-1 run to lead 11-9. Keiser kept the game close, but a kill from Ferran put the Running Eagles on match point, 24-19. Keiser earned three straight points to bring the game to within two, however a kill from Ferran ended the game 25-22 to give the match win to Life U three games to one.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U held the advantage in kills with 56 to go with 52 assists in game one, while Keiser had 37 kills and 34 assists.
• Life U finished game one with a .194 hitting percentage, while Keiser finished with a .106 hitting percentage. Keiser tallied 23 errors, while Life U had 28.
• Life U held the advantage in digs 63-55 over Keiser with a 5-4 lead in aces. 
 
UP NEXT 
• The Running Eagles will return to action on Friday, August 31 when they continue play in the Running Eagle Classic that will be played on campus. The team will face the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 2 PM and then Coastal Georgia at 6 PM in the final game of the day.
