DUE WEST, S.C. ---- The Life University men's volleyball team defeated NCAA Division II Erskine College 3-0 for the second consecutive game on the road Tuesday night.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 2-0, while Erskine fell to 0-4.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Alejandro Gonzalez led the Running Eagles with 16 kills as he hit 33.3%. He also finished with three digs, three service aces, two assists and a solo block.
•
Livan Moreno finished with 15 kills and hit 35.7%. He added five digs, two block assists, two assists and a service ace.
•
Allain Larroche nearly picked up a triple-double as he tallied 35 assists, 10 digs and six kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams traded points back and forth as neither team led by more than two in the first set. A kill from Moreno and a service ace from Moreno gave the Running Eagles a late two-point lead, 17-15.
• With the set tied at 18, the Running Eagles went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 23-18 lead. The Running Eagles finished the set with a kill from Moreno, 25-21.
• Erskine jumped out to an early 6-3 lead early in set two, however the Running Eagles responded with an 8-2 run to lead 8-11 after a block from Allmond and Cornier.
• Life U maintained at least a three-point lead, until a 3-0 run from Erskine brought the match to within one, 19-18.
• Life U went on a 5-0 run to get to set-point, as Moreno again provided the final kill to take set two 25-20.
• Life U led 5-1 early in set three as Moreno finished the kill. Life U extended the lead to 10-5, however a short 4-0 run from Erskine brought the set to within one.
• Both teams traded points until a 5-1 run from Erskine following a timeout gave the Flying Fleet a 16-15 lead.
• Life U used a late 4-1 run to come to match-point, 24-22. However, Erskine responded with a 2-0 run to extend the match. A service error from Erskine and a service ace from Gonzalez ended the match 30-28.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Erskine in kills 49-30. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .248 as Erskine finished with a .182.
• Life U led Erskine in digs, 38-32.
• Life U led Erskine in aces 6-0 and blocks 8-6.

• The men's volleyball team will return to action Friday, January 18 as they travel to Tigerville, S.C. to face North Greenville University on the road at 7 PM.
