Women's Basketball Opens MSC Play with Win over Cumberlands

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team defeated the University of the Cumberlands 79-65 Saturday night at home in the Mid-South Conference opener for both teams.  
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 11-2 (1-0) on the year, while Cumberlands fell to 12-4 (0-1).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Tierra Lindsey picked up a game-high 17 points and added nine boards with two assists. She also had two steals and was 8-for-15 from the floor.
Shikiya Brown finished with 15 and picked up five steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds.  
Maeisha Teasley also added 14 points in the game with a game-high 6 steals. She finished 7-for-8 from the field. Tierra Tullis was the final Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 13 points and four steals.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Both teams seemed to struggle early offensively, however Life U finished the first quarter ahead 17-11 with a 4-1 run in the final two minutes.
• Cumberlands started the quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 20-17, however Life U responded with a 6-2 run that was finished on a jumper in the paint from Tullis. The Running Eagles led by one, 23-22, at the half. 
• Life U came out in the second half and dominated the quarter 37-21. Cumberlands led by two, 29-27, three minutes into the quarter.
• Life U led by two, 35-33, before a 9-0 run was finished with a free-throw from Tullis to put the Running Eagles ahead 44-33. Life U finished the quarter on a 9-3 run as Teasley earned the steal and fast-break layup just before the buzzer to lead by 17, 60-43.
• Life U maintained a double-digit lead the entire fourth quarter despite the Patriots outscoring the Running Eagles 22-19 in the final ten minutes. Tullis sank a pair of free-throws with less than a minute remaining to seal the 79-65 MSC opening win over Cumberlands. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 33-for-71 from the field, 46.5%, while Cumberlands shot 22-for-55, 40%.
• Life U shot 9-for-14, 64.3%, from the free-throw line as Cumberlands finished 16-for-27, 59.3%. 
• Life U forced Cumberlands to commit 43 turnovers and scored 43 points off of the miscues. 
 
UP NEXT 
• The women's basketball team will return to action on Thursday, January 10 as they continue MSC play and travel to Pikeville, Ky. to face the University of Pikeville at 6 PM.
