MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's soccer team upset (RV) University of the Cumberlands 2-0 Tuesday night in the first Mid-South Conference match for both teams.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 4-3 (1-0) on the year as Cumberlands fell to 4-4-1 (0-1).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Martin Cortes scored both goals for the Running Eagles as he converted on both penalty kick opportunities.
•
Ricardo Lawrence totaled two shots on frame for Life U.
•
Fabian Pekruhl earned the shutout with six saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• As the match began to settle in during the early minutes, a penalty was awarded to Life U in the sixth minute. Cortes struck the ball into the lower right corner to put the Running Eagles ahead 1-0.
• Pekruhl was only required to make one save in the first half as Life U led 1-0 at the break.
• Pekruhl was called upon early in the second half as four minutes in a save kept the Life U lead at 1-0.
• Life U earned its second penalty of the match in the 88
th minute as once again Cortes found the back of the net to put the Running Eagles ahead 2-0.
• Life U had two additional chances at goal in the final three minutes of the match, but the Running Eagles held on defensively to earn the 2-0 upset victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Cumberlands outshot Life U 12-8 during the match and held a 6-4 advantage in shots on frame.
• Cumberlands led Life U 5-2 in corner kicks throughout the match.
• Life U posted a 5-2 advantage in saves over Cumberlands in the second half.
