MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team fell at home 86-79 to No. 9 Talladega College Wednesday night.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 6-5 on the year as Talladega improved to 12-3.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Tierra Lindsey captured a team-high 22 points in the game with five rebounds as she was 9-for-13 from the field.
•
Tierra Tullis also finished in double figures with 16 points and nine rebounds. She added seven assists and three steals.
•
Sydni Tears totaled 13 points with nine rebounds as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Four minutes into the first quarter, Life U held a slight 10-3 advantage over Talladega after a layup from Tullis in the paint. Talladega responded with a layup and a three to take the advantage before Tears broke away with the layup to tie the game at 12 with 5:06 on the clock.
• A quick 7-0 run from the Tornadoes put the visitors ahead by seven, 19-12. A two from Tullis ended the scoring the draught, but Talladega answered back to lead. 21-14 with 2:40 in the quarter. Life U responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to two, 21-19, after the jumper from Lindsey. Talladega finished the first quarter ahead 26-20.
• Life U started the third quarter with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 28 after a layup from Lindsey in the paint 4:21 into the action. Life U battled back and forth as Talladega went up by six, 40-34, with 2:21 on the clock. Life U was able to finish the quarter on an 8-1 run as Tullis scored just before the buzzer to give the Running Eagles a one-point advantage, 42-41, at the break.
• Both teams kept battling in the third quarter as the lead changed four times, however Talladega took a one-point lead into the final ten minutes ahead 57-56.
• Tied at 59 a minute into the quarter, Talladega answered with a 12-1 run to lead by 11, 71-60 with 5:36 on the clock. A fastbreak layup from Tullis with 1:35 on the clock cut the Tornadoe lead to two, 76-78 after an 18-5 run. A pair of free-throws moments later again cut the lead to two, 80-78. However, Talladega was able to keep up the offensive pressure and finished the game on a 6-1 run with free-throws to take the 86-79 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 29-for-65 from the field, 44.6%, while Talladega shot 30-for-69, 43.5%. The Running Eagles shot 2-for-9, 22.2%, from beyond the arc as Talladega finished 8-for-21, 38.1%.
• Life U shot 19-for-28, 67.9%, from the free-throw line as Talladega finished 18-for-26, 69.2%.
• Life U scored 50 points in the paint and 47 points from the bench. Talladega totaled 39 bench points and 23 points off turnovers.
