AVE MARIA, Fla. ---- The Life University women's lacrosse team fell to Ave Maria 19-11 Saturday afternoon on the road in Mid-South Conference play.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 5-3 (0-2), as Ave Maria improved to 5-4 (1-1).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Jewelya Nelson and
Bridgett Simmer each scored three goals each to lead the Running Eagles. Nelson added three ground balls and 13 draw controls as Simmer picked up four ground balls and an assist.

Darion Eagen and
Sandy Le each scored two goals. Eagen added four ground balls and three caused turnovers as Le finished with three draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ave Maria jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play. Life U responded with a pair of goals inside the 21
st minute to cut the lead to two.
• Ave Maria scored again with 16 minutes on the clock, however Nelson scored 15 seconds later. The Gyrenes then scored three unanswered to lead 8-3 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
• Life U picked up a much needed 3-0 run as Simmer, Eagen and Nelson scored to put the Running Eagles down by two, 8-6, with three minutes in the half.
• Ave Maria scored with two minutes on the clock as Nelson scored her third of the half to keep the lead at two. The Gyrenes scored an additional goal with 17 seconds on the clock to lead 10-7 at the half.
• Eagen started the second half with a Life U goal within the first minute. However, Ave Maria went on its longest run of the game with five goals going unanswered. Le scored a pair in the second half as Simmer picked up her third of the game, however the Gyrenes earned the 19-11 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished with 32 total shots as 24 were on frame. Ave Maria tallied 39 shots with 32 on frame.
• Both teams finished with 13 saves, however Ave Maria held the advantage in turnover margin over Life U 28-21.
• Life U was 11-of-20 on clears during the game as Ave Maria finished 16-of-25.
• Life U picked up 23 ground balls compared to the 28 from Ave Maria. Life U led Ave Maria 22-10 in draw controls throughout the game.
