LAURINBURG, N.C. ---- The Life University men's volleyball team fell 3-1 in the regular season finale to St. Andrews University Saturday afternoon. The Knights claimed the Mid-South Conference South Division with the match.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 16-3 (11-2), while St. Andrews improved to 17-5 (12-0).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Alejandra Gonzalez led the way offensively for the Running Eagles with a career-high 23 kills. He finished with a hitting percentage of .452 with eight digs and two block assists.
•
Diego Perez also finished in double figures with 10 kills as
Luiz De Mello finished with 11 digs.
•
Allain Larroche tallied a pair service aces with 43 assists in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Andrews led 10-5 early in one after a pair of Life U errors. The Running Eagles responded with a 4-0 run that was finished with back-to-back kills from Gonzalez to cut the lead to one.
• Life U kept the set close until a late 5-1 run put the Knights ahead 22-16. The Running Eagles brought the set to within three, 23-20, before St. Andrews finished with a 2-1 run to take the 25-21 set victory.
• St. Andrews led early in set two as well 11-5. Life U never cut the lead to less than four, as the Knights ended the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-18.
• Life U jumped out to a 6-3 lead early in set three, however St. Andrews responded with a 4-1 run to tie the set at seven. The Running Eagles went on their longest streak of the day with an 8-1 run that was finished with a kill from Gonzalez to lead 15-8. A 6-1 Life U run finished the set 25-14 to force a fourth game.
• Both teams traded the lead throughout set four, however a late 5-1 run was finished with a kill from Gonzalez to give the Running Eagles a 20-17 lead. Leading 22-19, the Running Eagles looked to force a fifth set, however St. Andrews finished the match on a 6-0 run to take the match 25-22.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• St. Andrews led Life U in kills 55-50. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .324 as St. Andrews finished with a .404.
• St. Andrews led Life U in blocks 4-3.
• Life U finished with a 41-33 advantage in digs over St. Andrews.
