MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team defeated Point University 3-1 in the 2019 home opener Tuesday night. 
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 3-2 on the year, while Point fell to 2-4.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Lena Pucnik led the way offensively for the Running Eagles with a double-double on a team-high 25 kills and 13 digs.
• Marin Black totaled 33 digs defensively.
• Taylor Parrish finished with more than 50 kills for the fourth time this year and Alia Dorland tallied 19 digs. 
• Mary Zimmerman also finished in double figures with 10 kills. Morgan Furness picked up four block assists and one solo block as Fayola Louis, Morgan Schumacher and Destinee Benton each finished with three block assists. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Point jumped out to an early 7-6 lead, and the Skyhawks extended the margin with an 8-1 run to lead 15-7.
• Life U responded with a 5-2 run of its own but found themselves behind 19-14. A kill from Pucnik started the rally as the Running Eagles rattled off an 11-1 run to finish the set ahead 25-20.
• Life U led 8-3 early in set two after a block from Allen and Zimmerman. An 8-2 Point run put the Skyhawks ahead 11-10 midway through the set. Both teams battled back and forth, but Pucnik again started the rally with a kill to end the set on a 6-1 run to take the second set 25-18.
• Point jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the third set. The Skyhawks held a six-point advantage until a 5-1 run was finished with a block from Benton and Schumacher to cut the Point lead to two, 15-13. Life U tied the set at 18, however Point finished the set on a 7-2 run to win 25-20.
• Life U led 12-6 in the fourth set after a short 4-0 run was finished with a kill from Louis. Life U maintained its lead throughout the rest of the set not allowing Point to score more than two consecutive points. The Running Eagles finished the match with a 25-17 win in set four.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Point in kills 57-43. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .213 as Point finished with a .115.
• Life U led Point in digs 98-80.
• Life U also led Point in aces 7-3 and blocks 9-4.
 
UP NEXT
• The women's volleyball team will return to action on National College Colors Day Friday, August 30, where they will compete in the Running Eagles Classic. The team will play against Fisk University at 1 PM and Southeastern University at 7 PM. The first 50 fans at each game will receive free shirts.
