MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team came from behind to win the final two sets to earn the 3-2 victory over Mid-South Conference foe Thomas More University Friday night.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 11-4 (3-1) on the year, as Thomas More fell to 8-4 (3-1).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Lena Pucnik led the Running Eagles offensively with a match-high 23 kills. She added 11 digs with two block assists.
•
Zykeria Allen added 18 kills with 16 digs for the double-double as well.
•
Marin Black totaled 28 digs for a team-high, as
Morgan Furness totaled a team-high six block assists.
•
Taylor Parrish totaled 55 assists in the match as well as four block assists with Zimmerman tallying five total blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Thomas More led 8-4 early in set one, however Life U responded with an 11-2 run to take a 15-10 lead. A 5-2 run was finished with kills from Pucnik and Allen to put the score line at 23-15. Zimmerman and Dorland tallied the final kills to give the first set to Life U 25-17.
• Life U led 5-1 early in set two, however Thomas More responded with a run of its own rattling of eight consecutive points to lead 9-5. The Running Eagles responded immediately to end the drought with a 5-0 run that was finished on the
Allen Block to lead 10-9. An 11-2 run from Thomas More gave the Saints the 21-13 advantage in set two. A 6-2 Life U run cut the lead to four, 23-19, however the Saints finished the set ahead 25-19 to tie the match.
• Thomas More held the largest lead of the match 17-5 in set three. The Running Eagles attempt to comeback was shut down as Thomas More took the third set by a commanding 25-13 score line to go up 2-1.
• Life U led 10-4 early in set four with the kill from Allen and ace from Pucnik. Thomas More battled to bring the set to one, 14-13, however a 5-2 Running Eagle run was finished with the kill from Pucnik to lead 19-15. The Running Eagles finished the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-18 with Allen recording the final kill to force a fifth set.
• Thomas More led 5-2 early in set five but Pucnik started to heat up from the outside as the Saints held a narrow 8-6 advantage as the teams swapped sides. The Running Eagles battled as a block from Parrish and Zimmerman tied the set at 12. Thomas More picked up a kill, but Pucnik came in clutch with a pair of kills to put the Running Eagles ahead 14-13. A service error tied the set at 14, but Pucnik would add another kill and an ace from Parrish would seal the comeback as the Running Eagles took the fifth set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Thomas More in kills 59-51. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .149 as Thomas More finished with a .161.
• Life U also led Thomas More in aces 6-4 and assists 57-47.
• Life U finished with a staggering 12-4 advantage over Thomas More in blocks.
