DENMARK, SC — The Life University Women's Basketball Team traveled to Voorhees College to take on the Tigers on Wednesday. The Women would have a solid lead throughout the game, but would lose 68-66.
The first quarter was in favor for the Running Eagles Women. They would have a lead of 13 points to close out the first 10 minutes. Efforts would be collective, but there were still missed shots around the field which would benefit Voorhees. The women would shoot 33 percent from the field in the first half and 34 percent in the second.
Defensively, Maeisha Teasley and Tierra Tullis would go back and fourth in steals throughout the period. The Running Eagles would score 10 points off of turnovers in the second half alone. The Women would maintain their lead despite missed shots and low free-throw percentage.
The second half would be a turning point to Voorhees. Back-to-back threes from the Tigers would cut the lead down to five points in the third quarter. Life U would maintain a lead of double digits, but it would be short lived entering the fourth quarter.
During the first 5 minutes of the fourth, the Women would keep a lead of 11, before Voorhees would switch the tempo after a steal in the final three minutes. As the game entered the final 60 seconds, there was a difference of two points between the Running Eagles and the Tigers. Voorhees would drain a three-pointer, followed by being sent to the line in the final seconds.
The Women would shoot 61.5 percent from the line. Voorhees would shoot 45 percent, however it would favor the Tigers with a made free-throw to close out the game.
Efforts would come from Guards Teasley and Tullis. Teasley would finish with 17 points and six steals; Tullis with 12 points and five steals. Kiana Glenn would close out with 10 points for the Running Eagles.
