Life U Women Go to the Wire Against No. 1 Campbellsville

The women's basketball team would finish with a tough loss against Campbellsville 73-64

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team lost to No. 1 Ranked Campbellsville University 73-64.

The Running Eagles would would fall to 7-7, and 0-4 in the conference. Campbellsville would advance to an undefeated record with 17-0 overall, and 3-0 in the conference. The women would not go down without a fight, with 11 lead changes and eight ties throughout the game.

The women would start out with modest score of 5-4 early on in the first quarter. The pressure applied from the Running Eagles defense became a catalyst in their performance during the first half. Life U would take a lead in the second quarter, shutting down Lexy Lake and Sammy Rogers around the perimeter and forcing the Tigers in the paint. The Tigers, ranked No. 2 in three point field goal percentage (.409), would be held to 13 percent by the Running Eagles defense. They would hold Campbellsville to 11 points at the end of the half. 

Coming back, the women would take a nine point lead in the third quarter after a steal from Maeisha Teasley. Teasley would tally six steals for the night. By the six minute mark, the Tigers would come back from the deficit to tie up the game at 38 a piece. The lead would change three times, but the Tigers would outscore the Running Eagles 19 points to the Running Eagles 15 in the third.

Life U would look to capitalize on a lead of five points early on in the fourth quarter. The lead would last to the halfway mark of the fourth, after the Tigers would be sent to the free throw line after back-to-back personal fouls from Tullis and Teasley. This would be a turning point for the Tigers, who would extend the lead to 11 points, finishing the game with a score 74-63. 

The Running Eagles wouldn't go without standout performances from Maeisha Teasley, with 16 points, and 6 steals. Sydni Tears would acquire a double-double, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Tierra Lindsey would also hit double digits with 10 points and three rebounds

  • Life U shot 44.4% from the field to Campbellsville's 34.3%. 
  • The Running Eagles were 20% from outside the arc, while the Tigers were 13.6%, holding them underneath their average per game
  • The Running Eagles had 22 points off of turnovers, and 40 points in the paint to Campbellsville's 34 points in the paint and 18 turnovers. 
  • The Tigers outscored the Running Eagles in second chance points with 17 to Life U's 8.
